What We Do

We are an international team of help desk workers, activists, researchers, doctors, and digital rights advocates. As a collective, we offer safe and affordable online abortion care centered around the rights, privacy and preferences of women and pregnant people.

We are driven by social and digital innovations that expand abortion access and catalyze policy change. We are passionate about empowering people with actionable, evidence-based abortion information.  

We set ambitious and long-term goals to improve abortion access and work toward a future where abortion pills are sold in pharmacies without prescription. 

Together with our sister organization, Women on Waves and local partners, we run fearless and innovative campaigns to raise awareness of the transformative power of abortion pills.

To catalyze service and policy change, Women on Web has published over 20 research papers about the safety and efficacy of our service and telemedicine abortion in general. In countries where abortion is legal, our research is fueling action against persistent access barriers.

Abortion Pill Service 

If you need an abortion, you can request abortion pills through our online consultation 

If you’re not pregnant but want to request abortion pills for future use, please fill out this online consultation. 

The consultation is reviewed by our medical team. After they provide a prescription for the abortion pills, the medicines are sent to you by mail. The service is open for people who have early pregnancies and no medical contraindications. 

Before, during and after the abortion, you can email our help desk that works 7 days/week and operates in 16 different languages. You can also find answers to frequently asked questions in Q&A or in the comprehensive abortion pill guide. 

Our service is available to all people who need help ending their pregnancies. We are committed to ensuring that everyone, including trans, non-binary, genderqueer, and gender non-conforming people can safely access abortion without discrimination or alienation. 

Our Story 

Women on Web was established in 2005 by Dr Rebecca Gomperts, a Dutch physician and renowned abortion activist who also leads Women on Waves and Aid Access. 

Women on Web was the first international telemedicine abortion service, paving the way for safe, remote abortion care around the world. In the past 17 years, we have supported more than 100,000 people to have an abortion with pills and responded to over one million emails from care-seekers around the world. 

Women on Web was established to transcend national borders and reach the most restricted settings with safe abortion services. Thanks to Dr Gompert’s pioneering work, telemedicine abortion is an increasingly common service pathway supported by the best scientific evidence. Today, more people than ever choose to access abortion pills online as a private and empowering way to end their pregnancies. 

Our Values and Vision 

Women and pregnant people should be trusted to make decisions about their own bodies. People can safely and effectively self-manage an abortion with pills when they have access to high quality medication and information.  

Abortion is essential health care and a fundamental human right. Abortion restrictions are scientifically unsound and harmful. They disproportionally impact the most marginalized people: Black people and people of color, migrants, young people, poor people, people living in remote areas and victims of violence and conflict. 

Women on Web works towards a world where anyone can access abortion with respect and dignity. We envision a future where home abortions are normalized, safe and supported by clinicians, policymakers, and the general public.  

We recognize that each person’s abortion journey is shaped by a wide range of medical and non-medical actors, including feminist collectives, hotlines, digital platforms, friends, family, and other support networks. Our help desk workers are abortion providers too.
