During the abortion, some people may experience intense cramping pain, while others may not. As a precaution, we suggest preparing painkillers in advance. It is best to start painkillers 1 hour before taking misoprostol and use them as needed during and after the abortion. Please read the instructions on the package to know the maximum dosage.

Ibuprofen is the most effective painkiller for cramps, but you can also use other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Other NSAIDs include diclofenac or naproxen. Different types of NSAIDs should not be combined.

Paracetamol is less effective but can be combined with NSAIDs or used if other painkillers cannot be taken.

Avoid Aspirin and anti-spasmodic/cramp medication such as Buscopan. Applying local heat (such as a hot water bottle or pad) on your belly, taking a shower, or having someone rub your back might help as well.
