If you decide not to take misoprostol, three things could happen:

  • The pregnancy may end and pass naturally in 1-2 weeks afterwards
  • You can have a “missed abortion”: the pregnancy has stopped growing but has not come out yet. You may need misoprostol or a procedure to complete the abortion.
  • The pregnancy may continue and remain healthy. Mifepristone alone has not been linked to birth defects.

There is no safe and effective way to undo the effects of mifepristone. Treatments for “abortion pill reversal” don’t work and can be dangerous.
