Bleeding in abortions with pills will be different from person to person. No two abortions are the same.
Bleeding can range from light to heavy. At times, bleeding and cramps are heavier than a normal period and become more intense until the pregnancy comes out. On average, this happens within 4-5 hours, but it can take longer. The bleeding and cramps usually slow down once the pregnancy has passed.
An abortion with pills, like a miscarriage, is a process that takes time. It is normal to have on-and-off bleeding, spotting, and/or cramps for days or weeks after your abortion. This will slowly decrease. Some tissue may pass with your next period, which will usually return 4-8 weeks after the abortion. As a result, your first period after the abortion may be heavier than usual.
Most bleeding patterns are normal. The body will do what it needs to do to pass all the tissue. Seek medical help if you’re soaking through 2 regular pads per hour for 2 hours or more in a row.
