There are two types of safe abortion methods: medicines (pills) and surgical.

Abortion pills help empty the uterus of pregnancy tissue. You can self-manage an abortion with pills at home or visit a hospital or clinic. Most of the process happens over a few days, but it may take up to 4-6 weeks for all the tissue to pass.

Surgical abortion actually don’t involve incisions or other surgical techniques and are also called “procedural” abortions. Up to 14 weeks of pregnancy, a trained provider uses tools to remove tissue with gentle suction. This is called vacuum aspiration and typically takes up to 15 minutes. It can be safely done in a variety of health care settings, such as hospitals, clinics, or consultation rooms. You leave knowing your abortion is complete.
