Women on Web has turned 20!

For twenty years, our team has worked collectively to expand abortion access and build a future where abortion is recognized as part of our lives and freely available to all.
By shifting power from institutionalized medical systems to abortion seekers themselves, Women on Web has supported over 650,000 individuals with information and facilitated access to abortion pills for more than 130,000 people.
BIG thank you to our help desk – based in 19 countries and responding to messages in 15 languages – who support care seekers every day through safe, dignified, and empowering abortion experiences.
A New Chapter: Our Strategic Framework
Looking ahead, we are proud to launch a new strategic framework to guide our work for the next five years and beyond.
Key Reflections going forward:
- Demedicalization: WoW has shifted away from physician-dominated models toward person-centered, self-managed, and community-based care. We challenge traditional healthcare hierarchies and draw inspiration from feminist models of care that confront systemic inequities and create pathways where systems and hierarchies have built barriers for abortion seekers.
- Global reproductive justice movement: We are committed to grounding our strategies and responses in local experiences and expertise. We recognize that self-managed abortion (SMA) rarely occurs in isolation: care-seekers are often supported by strong, informal networks, and WoW is part of this web of collective care, helping people to navigate their SMA journeys.
- Open and free internet: Today, governments, search engines, and social media platforms are censoring information about abortion and threatening our ability to connect with abortion seekers. We defend access to information and care by driving advocacy on technology, policy, and cross-movement collaboration through our Digital Rights Program.
- Feminist organization: In a polarized and resource-scarce world where individuality and heroism are often celebrated, we are deliberately moving against the current, letting equity and our values guide our strategy. Calling ourselves a feminist organization carries a promise: to practice collective care, share power, and lift each other up.
Our framework is rooted in:
- Feminism – centering care, respect, and solidarity.
- Equity – embracing diverse experiences and dismantling hierarchies.
- Trust – trusting care-seekers and each other, honouring one another’s experiences.
- Transparency – practicing transparency with care-seekers and our teams to build trust.
- Resilience – adapting, learning, and pushing forward despite challenges.
