Women on Web and the legalisation of abortion in the Isle of Man

The first step toward legalization of Abortion in the Isle of Man was taken in January 2017 after Dr Allinson received permission to bring forward a private members bill and asked for consultation on the draft Abortion Reform Bill. Women on Web submitted a response to the consultation.

On January 28, 2018, Abigail Aiken published the data of the women from the Isle of Man using Women on Web to get access to medical abortions in the BMJ.

During the discussion of the abortion bill in the  House of Keys on 13 February 2018 , the availability of online abortion pills for women in the Isle of Man was discussed.

On May 1 th, 2018  the bill legalizing abortion passed the House of Keys.

On  26 June 2018  the Abortion Reform Bill has been approved fully by the Legislative Council with  8-1 in favor, with only a Bishop voting against.

On 30 October the Abortion Reform Bill 2018 passed unanimously by the House of Keys with three minor amendments.

In January 2019 the Isle of Man’s abortion Law Reform Bill gained Royal assent.

Local abortion services became available on the 24 th of May, 2019
