Dr. Belén Carcedo

Belén Carcedo is a general practitioner, feminist activist, and university lecturer at a public university in Argentina. She works as a Supervising Doctor at Women on Web (WOW), supporting medication abortion care internationally.
She is a member of the Red de Profesionales de la Salud por el Derecho a Decidir and has been actively involved in the movement for abortion rights in Argentina, including the process that led to the approval of the Ley 27.610 de Acceso a la Interrupción Voluntaria del Embarazo in 2020, and its ongoing implementation.
She currently works at her provincial Ministry of Health, where she leads the implementation of sexual and reproductive health policies, coordinates training for healthcare teams, and collaborates with territorial organizations and accompaniment networks to strengthen access to abortion care.

In addition to her medical degree, Louise holds an MPH in the field of Maternal and Child Health and additional post-graduate qualifications in HIV Medicine and Sexual and Reproductive Health. Louise passionately pursues the provision of high-quality, evidence-based care and believes that this standard of care should be available to all who require healthcare, irrespective of their background.

Suzanne Veldhuis is a feminist physician, researcher, and passionate abortion advocate. She holds a MSc and PhD from the Colegio de la Frontera Sur (ECOSUR) in Mexico. She is a co-founder of the Mexican Network of Pro Choice Physicians and has over 10 years of experience in projects, research, and activism related to abortion rights in Mexico and globally. She is invested in advancing safe abortion access through innovative self-management models. Her expertise bridges grassroots activism, medical practice, and policy advocacy.

Hazal Atay
Research Coordinator
Hazal Atay is Women on Web’s Research Coordinator and consultant to the WHO, where she works on their GAPD – The Global Abortion Policies Database. Ms. Atay holds a Master’s of Political Science, and has taught at the Institut d’études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). Her research focuses on the fields of Gender Studies and addresses the social impacts of abortions. You can find her articles on the platform “The Conversation”, or dive into her research in studies like “Why Women Choose At-Home Abortion via Teleconsultation in France”.
