Malaysia: Websites Providing Abortion Pills Are Under Investigation

2019-04-18

Health Minister of Malaysia Dzulkefly Ahmad shows his concern about abortion pills that sold online. The report says that there are five deaths reported from abortion pills sold online. The restrictive laws do not eliminate abortion, it forces women to access unsafe abortions. Access to safe abortion and legalization of abortion can prevent unnecessary suffering and death of women.

Medical abortion is actually an alternative for women who need abortion within 12 weeks of pregnancy, only if it is from trusted source. It can be done with combination of Mifepristone and Misoprostol which has 99% successful rate and Misoprostol alone with 94% successful rate.

World Health Organisation researcher Gunatra also stated that access to abortion pills through a telemedicine service such as Women on Web, which gives them information and support, is considered a safe abortion.

Unfortunately, there are many scams in the internet. Some women reported to us and we tried to collect the information in this link: https://www.womenonwaves.org/en/page/974/warning--fake-abortion-pills-for-sale-online
