I had an abortion
1998 United States (born in United States)
What were your feelings about doing the abortion/s? resolved
There are many pressures in our country for women to not have abortions. However, I would not change my decision. I had one child already, and having another would have made it very hard for me to care for them both. My daughter is a wonderful young adult now, and I've been able to provide for her well-being and her education. Things would have been different if I'd carried the pregnancy to term.
How did you do the abortion? in a clinic or hospital with surgery
Fortunately, there were no right-to-life protestors outside the clinic that morning. The women at the clinic were polite. It was uncomfortable, but tolerable. I felt very groggy and cramped a lot afterwards. By the next day, I felt mostly ok.
What was your situation at this time? financial issues, my personal reasons for not wanting a child, family size
How did other people react to your abortion?
I only told three people. The boyfriend, who was already paying child support to the mothers of two other children, pressured me to keep the baby. My two friends were supportive and understood that I could not afford another child. My daughter was four years old at the time.
