I had an abortion...As an American traveling in a foreign country where abortion is illegal I became very aware of the sheer numbers of women having unsafe terminations. I have an unusual situation that involves a very rare medical disorder called an incarcerated uterus. 100% of women with this disorder die. Due to its rarity the doctors in this country (I went to 2 major hospitals) still would not terminate my pregnancy even though my life was in danger. I was told I am not dead yet and they cannot and WILL NOT terminate to save my life. Being desperate I turned to the internet and found Women on Web. The process was private, successful and much less painful and demeaning than a traditional aspiration procedure, most of all it is safe. I am forever grateful that Women on Web exist, because is my case it was not just a termination, pregnancy is life threatening for me and Women on Web saved my life. I urge everyone who has had the good fortune to find this site support this organization and keep abortion safe for all women.

I kept my abortion private because Thailand is a Buddist and Muslim country, I was in fear of prosecution. My family at home in America was supportive and grateful that I found Women on Web. I am fortunate and had the means to leave the country if it had come to that, I was less than 4 weeks along. My concern lies with the women who do not have means. I will now become more involved in keeping abortion legal in my own country and doing what I can to help women in countries where it remains illegal.

I had to make a choice to live or die, I choose to live. More importantly I learned that I have to help other women who choose to live. Abortion in countries where it is illegal means dirty knives, dangerous herbal remedies, shame and needless maming and loss of womens lives.
