Country of abortion: Canada

My family and friends were immedietly supportive of my decision to terminate my pregnancy

Type of abortion: with medicines

Following much research, I found that the medical abortion was the safest method for myself, as I was only 7 weeks pregnant. But, due to my rural and remote location there were no doctors in my area that would offer me this method. I had no choice but to travel 10 hours to have a specialist offer me the injection and had to travel back afterwards for my follow up appointment. It was extremely effective and the procedure was much less evasive to my body.

Reason for abortion: financial issues, my education, family size

I have two wonderful children and am a single mother attending university. I could not conceivably bring another child into this world due to the many factors associated with being a single parent. Currently, I am working towards becoming financially independent and creating a better life for the children that I do have. This would not be possible adding another child to my life.

Feelings about abortion: confident, guilty, sad

I think that we, as women, experience so many mixed feelings. I really had to question where the negative feelings associated with my procedure came from. The answer was that due to societal influences we are told as women to feel guilty, selfish, and irresponsible for our decisions. I really had to look within myself and meditate on what was right for me. It was simply not fair to myself or my children to bring another child into this world at this point. I feel confident at this point that I made the right decision.
